She grew up with several dogs, many cats, gerbils, horses, bunnies, couple of sheep, a calf, and even hogs. She attended Iowa State University for undergraduate as well as her veterinary training which she completed in 1992. In 2009, she completed a 120 hour course of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine & Acupuncture and is using that new knowledge as an alternative form of treatment integrating it into Western treatments for her patients.
